This past week Bani held its annual Mango Festival. I attended with a number of other “San Cristoballers”, but missed the mango eating competition on Sunday (6/10) to go to the beach with the Mama Tingo organization as part of a fundraiser for the group. We happened to pick a cloudy, rainy day to go to the beach. Thankfully, the hard rain held off long enough for us to enjoy the day and Blair (the volunteer living closest to me whose partner organization is Mama Tingo) and I took a walk to nearby Juan Dolio for Mexican food and Chinola Margaritas (and a bit of the Mets game which happened to be on TV).
Back from the beach, and having seen the annoying chicken that lives upstairs brought to the colmado to be weighed (now over 4lbs – hopefully a sign that he is to be eaten soon), I figured I would see how Tiguere is growing (2.5 lbs – up from .8lbs a little over a month ago). My zinc roof over my kitchen is now significantly indented from the chicken’s stompings.
6/19/12 My chicas group held a Movie Night fundraiser where we screened The Rock’s pec-pop-of-love-tastic work “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”. The movie choice ended up working out very well and thanks to Mama Tingo for lending us their projector and a local family lending us there giant speakers and outdoor area we turned their backyard into a decent movie venue.

We had a good turnout for the movie night, but could have done a better job capitalizing off of the excitement it created in generating a larger profit for the fundraiser (tough to do when the audience is primarily penniless children), but a success nonetheless
Bonus Moto Pic:

Beach looks nice even in the rain. Glad you got to see a little of the Surprizins.
Hi Dan, This is out of context with respect to your post, but Happy Birthday! Hope the birthday fairy brings you another bag of mangoes. XO Uncle Kevin & Aunt Jen
Thanks Auntie Jen!
Okay, “Auntie” Jen gets in first again. Oh, shut up. I know it’s August. Happy Bday anyway. You are the day before me! BTW, I never wished AJ (aka, Auntie Jen) a happy birthday, so here it is.
